Drum Lessons with Joel Oppong-Boateng

Looking to take your drumming to the next level — or just getting started behind the kit? Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player, I offer personalized drum lessons for all ages and skill levels, both in-person (Ottawa-based) and online.

With over 15 years of playing experience and more than 5 years of teaching, I’ve developed a flexible but structured approach that adapts to each student’s unique goals and learning style. My lessons are grounded in groove, musicality, and technique — and built on a real connection with each student.

What I Teach:
    •    Drum set fundamentals and technique
    •    Reading music
    •    Grooves & styles (Jazz, Gospel, Blues, Latin, Funk, and more)
    •    Ear training & musicality
    •    Performance preparation

Lessons are offered in 45-minute or 60-minute sessions, and I work with everyone from young beginners to working musicians. I use a variety of resources to build tailored lesson plans, helping students grow with both confidence and creativity.

I believe in more than just teaching — I invest in my students. I aim to create a space where you can grow as a musician and as a person, while having fun and developing discipline along the way.

Students I’ve worked with have gone on to perform at festivals like the Ottawa Jazz Festival, and I’m always ready to help you prepare for whatever’s next — be it your first band audition or a professional gig
